Fencing for Kids


Musketeer Program

For our youngest fencers, ages 5 to 7, we at Peoria Fencing Academy have what we affectionately call the Musketeer program. Along with basic fencing skills like footwork and bladework, we play games that develop coordination, balance, speed, and sportsmanship. This program will introduce our young fencers to the foil weapon and teach proper fencing techniques using it.

The Musketeer program is comprised of five levels to reflect the skill level of the young fencer.

Our goal is to instill these values in our muskateers:

Musketeer Values

Tiger Program

Prerequisites: Musketeers program (3 months enrollment)

This program designed for our youngest fencers who would like to improve their fencing skills. At the end of the program, the coach conducts a test to confirm that the fencer had mastered the techniques and skills learned.

When you pass the test, you will receive a Tiger patch to put on your fencing jacket.

Class Schedule

  • Saturday (10:00-11:00 am)
  • Monday (5:00-6:00 pm)

 


Youth Program head

Prerequisites: Fencing I & II

Designed for fencers who would enjoy the sport by fencing with others at Peoria Fencing Academy and would like to improve their fencing skills and techniques.

Practice Schedule:

  • Tuesday (5:30-7:00 pm)
  • Wednesday (5:30-7:00 pm)
  • Thursday (5:30-7:00 pm)
  • Friday (5:30-7:00 pm)


  • Saturday (11:00-12:30 pm)

Gold Sword Program

This program is for fencers who have finished Fencing I & Fencing II classes and are ready to become a more skilled and competitive fencers. Emphasis is on tactical bouting, opponent analysis, and fine-tuning ones fencing skills.

The program is divided into 3 levels; Bronze, Silver, and Gold. At each level the fencer will develop greater breadth and depth of skill in the weapon of their choice. Every eight weeks the fencer will be reviewed. If satisfactory progress has been made they will advance to the next level.

Practice Schedule:

  • Saturdays (11:00-12:30 pm)
